Wee Play Class Descriptions
Wee
Play’s goal is to provide innovative, caring, and fun opportunities for parents and children to play together. A Wee Play teacher leads each of the age-appropriate activities, while the parent
tailors the content for their own child’s needs. Wee Play organizes all
activities, and children bring their natural instincts and curiosity. For parents, Wee Play offers the convenience of a well-planned
and rewarding class of educational playtime with their children.
Classes meet once per week for a series of weeks.
Discovery Play Lab
(12 - 18 months)
Play is the way a young child learns, and this class offers
wonderful opportunities for children to make discoveries with open-ended natural materials. Children and their
parent or caregiver are welcomed into our large, safe, enclosed play area, where there is an attractive variety
of non-plastic resources for children to explore. Based on the practice of "Heuristic Play" developed by Elinor
Goldschmied in England many years ago, children are invited to manipulate, explore and investigate these materials.
Wooden and metal bowls, balls, rings, coffee mug trees, bells, pegs, ribbons, fabrics, metal cups, muffin tins, pom poms, stones,
shells, cardboard, and clear tubes are available for children to do what comes naturally to them - fill, measure,
dump, bang, roll, and explore.
There is no wrong way to play with Heuristic Play materials,
and parents are encouraged to support their child's play by sitting closely but taking only an observing role, allowing
their child's curiosity to lead to discoveries.
After a short circle time with lap rides and finger plays
we chase, track and pop bubbles. Our goodbye song signals it is time for blowing kisses and hand stamps.

Wee Play
(2s and 3s), (2 - 5 year olds)
Our
original and most popular class - often referred to as "preschool prep." We hear our Wee Players wake up many mornings
asking if it is a "Wee Play" day! So much fun - a very special time for parents or caregivers and their children to
spend together. The consistency of the format and the routines helps to develop school readiness.
These classes combine 5 segments in a one-hour format with gentle structure:
- table time/arrival with sensory bins, cars, animals, play kitchen,
play dough, and other manipulatives for fine motor play;
- a circle time with puppets, props, songs, finger plays, instruments, and stories;
- an open-ended art or craft project;
- active
play
with hoops, balls, poms, hoppers, paddles and balloons, obstacle courses, parachute, ride-on toys, group games, etc. for
gross motor skill development;
- and
a snack and stickers!
